ACS domain 2 ยท Airspace classification
You want to fly your drone 300 feet from a small non-towered airport with no control tower. What do you need before you fly?
Correct. Most non-towered airports without a surface control zone sit in Class G, uncontrolled airspace. No authorization is required, though you must still avoid interfering with airport traffic and stay clear of any published airspace shelf nearby.

Where we're honest about this
We are not trying to out-produce Pilot Institute's course
Their free practice test and video course are genuinely good. If you want a full structured course with video lessons, that is a reasonable place to spend money. Here is what we think you should know before you decide either way.
What a paid course adds
Video lessons that walk you through every ACS task area in order, a structured pace if you learn best on a syllabus, and an instructor voice explaining the reasoning behind harder questions.
What the free path covers for most people
An original practice bank across all 10 ACS task areas, a dedicated drill for the sectional-chart questions people miss most, and honest answers on renewal and waivers. Many candidates pass on the free materials alone.
What's actually on the Part 107 knowledge test?
The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) exam is 60 multiple-choice questions, 2 hours, and you need 70 percent (42 of 60 correct) to pass. Questions are drawn from 10 task areas in the ACS (Airman Certification Standards). The bank below covers all of them, with extra depth on the two areas candidates report struggling with most: airspace classification and weather.
The practice deck
All 10 ACS task areas, one deck each
Tap into any domain and work through it at your own pace. Your progress ring fills as you clear questions in each area, tracked only on your device.
Two things nobody else leads with
The full practice bank, and the renewal nobody explains
Every ACS task area, sourced and dated
Every question is authored from scratch against the FAA's own public regulations and Airman Certification Standards, never scraped or reworded from a paid course. Work through all 10 task areas at your own pace, free, no signup.
Start the practice test ›You almost certainly don't owe a retest
Since the FAA's 2021 rule update, keeping your Part 107 certificate current is every 24 calendar months, via a free faasteam online recurrent course, not a retest. Course-sellers rarely say this loudly, because a returning certificate holder isn't a course prospect. We built a checker that tells you exactly where you stand.

Straight answers before you commit to anything
Do I need a Part 107 certificate for wedding or event photography with a drone?
Yes, if you're paid for the work or it's part of your business, even a small side business. The FAA draws the line at compensation and business purpose, not at how casual the shoot feels. See the full breakdown on the guide below.
Can I just study for free and skip a paid course entirely?
Many candidates do. The free FAA study guide, the ACS, and a practice bank like this one cover the same material a paid course teaches. A course adds structure and video explanation, which some people need and some don't.
Do I have to retake the test every 2 years?
No. Since 2021, a free online recurrent course every 24 months keeps your certificate current. Nobody has to pay 175 USD to retest just to stay certified.
